Treatment Method of Short Circuit in Stator Winding of Explosion-Proof Motor

The stator windings of explosion-proof motors have short-circuit problems, mainly including interphase short-circuit (three-phase or two-phase short-circuit) and inter-turn short-circuit, which are usually caused by insulation damage. In the face of these situations, appropriate measures need to be taken to deal with it to avoid motor damage or even safety accidents.

Interphase short circuit treatment: When the interphase short circuit occurs, due to the decrease in the number of turns and the change of slip, the impedance of the motor is reduced, and the current input from the power supply will increase rapidly. In order to prevent motor overload and winding damage, the usual maintenance operation is to quickly cut off the power supply, such as shutting off the circuit breaker or fuse. If the treatment is delayed, the windings may be damaged. In the case of two-phase or three-phase short circuit, if the position of each phase short circuit point is inconsistent, it may lead to asymmetrical operation of the motor, negative sequence current and other abnormal conditions, which will affect the performance and life of the motor.

Interturn short circuit treatment: interturn short circuit refers to the occurrence of short circuit between coils in the same winding. This may cause abnormal motor noise and vibration. The treatment method is mainly to repair the motor by repairing or replacing the damaged winding part. At the same time, other windings also need to be checked to ensure that there are no other potential problems.

It should be noted that the interphase short circuit of the explosion-proof motor is the most serious, especially the case that occurs at the end of the stator winding. Once the winding is short-circuited between turns, the damaged turns will heat up rapidly, which may lead to insulation damage or even burnout. In addition, the motor may produce abnormal noise, which is an obvious signal.

In general, when the stator winding of an explosion-proof motor is short-circuiting, the first step is to cut off the power supply immediately to avoid motor damage or safety problems. Subsequently, careful inspection and maintenance are required to repair the damaged portion of the winding and ensure that the motor returns to normal operation. If the situation is more serious, it may require more in-depth maintenance and diagnosis by professionals to ensure the performance and safety of the motor. At the same time, regular insulation testing and maintenance is also crucial to prevent winding short circuit problems.
